:: Eight Mules to Help You Transition Into Fall ::

Happy October loves!

Today I’m talking about one of my favorite fall trends: flat mules! This effortlessly chic shoe is perfect for transitioning into fall, and I rounded up a selection of my favorite finds for y’all and an image you can pin now, and shop later for anyone in a time crunch!

I want to start by saying, that this time last year I wasn’t feeling it. Every pair I tried made my narrow foot look even longer and many of the most popular colors weren’t doing it for me. But after buying my first pair, these satin blush beauties right here, everything changed.

There are few things more glorious than the marriage of convenience and style and y’all, I swear to gawd the product of that union is flat mules.

Classic: Menswear, Tassels, & Hardware

You may have noticed menswear-inspired pieces are on trend this fall, which I for one am super excited about. I feel like a good blazer is a versatile piece that can be worn with anything from dress pants to jeans to pleated skirts! (I’m loving this iconic checked blazer, this military style orange one that is *the* perfect pop of color, and this deconstructed double breasted blazer that is magnifique.) Adding any classic square top or pointed toe mule in a neutral like black or nude instantly completes the look. Throw in a tassel or a hardware detail for good measure and you’ll look just as fierce as you feel when you’re giving the office boys a run for their money, Monday through Casual Friday.

Textures: Satin & Velvet

Last autumn, velvet made a killer comeback. This season, it’s back again with its equally sleek, fraternal twin Satin and I must say – I’m here for it. Tactile fabrics like these instinctively draw the eye, making texture play one of the easiest ways to give a basic outfit some character. Currently my early fall uniform is a cami, a knit cardigan, and a pair of distressed denim and adding a velvet or satin mule is an effortless way to elevate my look.

Retro Details: Pearls, Fur, & Animal Print

Everyone knows that fashion is a revolving door, but it seems the 70’s have been quite adamant on extending their stay. From bell bottoms to fringe to embroidery, 70’s trends have been going strong for the last two seasons and they’re back again – this time sprinkling their retro magic on the beloved mule.

I’ve always said (and by always, I mean about three years ago when I realized cheetah print shoes were the heaven’s gift to women) that cheetah is the new neutral. Do yourself a favor and grab a pair of mules in this print, and after that all you need is a white tee and high-rise black jeans. Fur-lined mules have been going strong for some time, but now they’re at a price most folks can afford. My favorite re-imagining by far is the pearl detail. I bought this pair a couple of weeks ago and have been wearing them everywhere. These, however, are just so darling I can’t stand it. I think they would be perfect for holiday affairs, and even though it’s only the first week of October, it’s never too early to start planning those looks.

Obviously, I’m a mule enthusiast but if you still have any doubts let me know! I am happy to assuage them all. 1. Ok, so I kind of want all of them, but I’m always so nervous that they won’t be as comfy as I think! Which would you say have been the comfiest pair you’ve tried?

    1. Both of mine have no heel at all and even with my flat feet, I find I can wear them all day without discomfort. My only complaint – and excuse the TMI – is that when my feet sweat sometimes they slip out (which is nothing a little baby powder can’t fix).
