:: Bold Prints & Rich Hues: Navy & Florals

As you may know, I have developed a serious love for Ann Taylor as I’ve gotten older. Their pieces are filled with rich hues, bold patterns, and classic silhouettes for a trendy yet timeless feel. For me this look encompasses all of those aspects; deep navy, bright florals, and off the shoulder. This look could easily be worn with flats for a more practical daytime look, or spiced up with heels or wedges for a date night. You could also pair the shorts with this navy blue blouse or button-down for more work appropriate look too. I could go on and on, as both pieces are so versatile, there’s endless ways to mix and match them.

When I saw this top, I knew I had to grab it, especially since it had been marked down to $19! It’s currently listed at $50 but if you know Ann Taylor, they’re sure to mark it down at least once more before the close of the summer. I also like that, unlike my other off the shoulder tops, this one is fitted which makes it much easier to tuck into bottoms.

If I haven’t made it clear, I love these shorts and the colors are perfect for transitioning into early fall days. If you’re crushing on this floral print as much as I am, you’ll love this dress and skirt, or consider completing the set with this matching peplum top. There’s even a scarf for those looking for a lively, but lightweight way to bundle up on a cool summer evening.

Also I can’t get enough of these sunglasses! I purchased them for $18 at the Ann Taylor Factory Store, but they’re not available online and most likely aren’t in stock at the classic Ann Taylor either. I did some hunting and found a similar pair here and here. (Bonus: The second comes in five colors!) My double sided pearl earrings are one of my favorite jewelry pieces; pair with a simple pearl necklace to create the perfect vintage feel. While you can easily find a pair for under $15, most earrings that inexpensive are made of brass, nickel, or a combination of metals that will turn over time. If you’re looking to invest in more long term jewelry, or you have sensitive skin, you may find these (sterling silver or 18k gold) pairs to be better options.

If you’re like me, your hair’s low porosity often lends to excessive dryness, which can make it brittle and fragile. In the summertime, natural hairstyles force me to put a bit more TLC into my hair, but during busy weeks, it isn’t always easy to find that time. Though heat styling is more time efficient for me, the heat applied can exacerbate my hair’s fragility. I find thick, lose braids put the least amount of strain on my hair, although admittedly I need to up my game. I am pretty proud of this look though, and with some practice, I may be able to don it as maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding in September. To attain the perfect bun, I decided to DIY a sock hair donut. This tutorial is perfect; the bun made the shorter hair at the back of my head look much fuller, the sock posed no risk to my delicate strands, and it cost me nothing.

:: Summer Loving: Off the Shoulder Ruffle Top & Gingham Skirt ::

Hey all,

Over the past few years, my love for Macy’s has waned. Lately, however, we’ve had a fantastic relationship and I love that they cater to a range of styles and sizes. There have been a number of great sales this season, and I have an additional 20% or 25% off coupon. There’s generally only free shipping for orders over $99, but I seemingly always have more than enough to qualify. Free return shipping doesn’t offer much of a deterrent and I love that I can try things out without the concern of unnecessary return fees. Although, it’s not as great of a policy as Nordstrom (which every fashion blogger swears by), I prefer a greater selection of more affordable pieces and more frequent sales.

I purchased both my blouse and gingham skirt from Macy’s and if you follow me on social media, you’ll recognize the skirt from a number of previous posts. Gingham is by far one of my favorite summer prints. It adds instant character to any look and there are a never ending number of blue and red options, which are perfect for the upcoming holiday. I wore these Ann Taylor sandals I purchased last summer (current version here) but if you pair this skirt with red heels and a red bag and you’ve got yourself the perfect holiday number.

No doubt you’ve seen the countless pictures of the Chloe ‘Drew’ Crossbody. If you’re like me, you have no plans on stomaching the $1,850 price tag. Fortunately, it’s become trendy to score designer dopplegangers for less, and I snagged one from Jessica Buurman that included the chain and convertible strap for $100. As expected, Shein has about two or three different versions (there’s even a laser cut design) available in multiple colors for under $26! (Disclaimer: These only come with the chain and if you’re like me you’ll notice that the sides poke out, whereas the the original and more expensive look-alikes invert in.) I also like this listing on Amazon as it offers two sizes for each of three colors.

The off-the-shoulder trend became wildly popular this past spring, and has continued going strong. As I have FOMO (fear of missing out) I couldn’t officially start my summer vacation without purchasing an adorable ots top of my own. This Rachel Roy (and yes, I know she’s on the beyhive’s list) ruffle blouse could not have been a better buy. The fabric is lightweight but durable, and not only do the ruffles add an extra layer of femininity but they are extremely flattering for large busted girls such as myself. This top comes highly recommended!

Hey all!

I can’t tell you how excited I am about the first day of summer! It’s been a couple of years since I last took the summer off, and I’m looking forward to dedicating some time to developing the blog. I’m hoping that by the fall, this little guy will have a brand new facelift!

Tomorrow, is the last day of school and if you’ve been following me on Instagram you may know that I sort of started celebrating early. A couple of months ago, I purchased this ‘Seas the Day’ straw hat from &Apparel, and I highly recommend that you check out there entire line of embroidered hats if you’re in the market for one (or two!) this summer. Generally, these babies run mega-expensive, so I was stoked when &Apparel launched their line of great quality sun hats at much more affordable prices.

LOFT has had nothing short of amazing sales all month long and I had to have this pom pom straw bag and these adorable elephant shorts as soon as I saw them. I’ve been experimenting with pattern play a lot this season, and stripes tend to be my go-to summer print. An old pair of espadrille wedges from Ann Taylor and this striped zipper top made for a perfect oh-so-ready-for-summer-vacation look!

Loft always has a great selection of summer shorts (and amazing flash sales), and this season has yet to disappoint. Here are a few of my favorites below. I am in love the scalloped pair and will definitely be purchasing myself a pair soon.
