Hey ya’ll,

Recently, I took a four day mini-vacation down to St. Augustine, Florida. I can’t tell you how excited I was to see my mom, sister and best friend of 20 years! I was incredibly thrilled to serve as her maid of honor, and she couldn’t have picked a more stunning place to say her vows. Talk about #weddinggoals.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m sort of a Florida native. Having grown up in a city just outside of  Jacksonville for the better part of my childhood, it always feels like a bit of a homecoming whenever I get the chance to return. Florida is the source of my goofy (I think endearing is a more appropriate word) accent, some of my favorite memories, and authentic southern style cooking difficult to find in New England. Though nothing is ever as I remember it – it’s been over 15 years! – I wasn’t sad to find that included the incredibly manageable 45 minute drive to St. Augustine! My mom and I always thought St. Augustine was much further away, but we were happy to be proven wrong.

Ya’ll, this city is beautiful. We stayed at a hotel on Vilano beach and it was absolutely perfect. Bright and colorful spaces, warm sand, mesmerizing waters and clear blue skies.

In addition to it’s beauty, St. Augustine is one of the nation’s oldest cities, rich with a complex and compelling history. Unfortunately, we were so wiped out from my best friend’s wedding, that we only browsed the historic district from the car. What we did see, we loved so much that we vowed to return within the next year. (When you can, read up on it! There’s a lot to learn. For example, many articles this summer noted Simone Manuel’s Olympic wins were earned despite a deep, traumatic history of Black Americans and swim. This history includes a 1964 St. Augustine hotel owner who dumped acid into a pool when white and black protestors staged a swim-in to denounce the hotel’s whites-only policy.)

To be honest, I wanted to enjoy my time there, so with the exception of a few snaps to my Instastory (which regrettably I did not save), I spent most of my time just soaking up the views. Also, the forecast was for torrential downpours (Praise God there weren’t!), but I didn’t pack typical beach town wear, unless you consider yellow rain boots an 80°+ weather staple.

Thankfully, I do have plenty of pictures of my maid of honor dress, which I would highly recommend to anyone planning on taking a beach city vacation ever in your life. This jersey knit maxi was an all-around win; comfortable, versatile, and machine washable. It was elegant enough for the wedding, but casual enough to wear the next day on the beach. It’s available in a variety of colors and can also be worn in six different styles. C’mon, need I say more? It paired perfectly with the beautiful handmade jewelry that my bestie gifted to the bridal party. Much obliged to my mom and sister for being my photographers on this one. Rest assured, this is not an easy task.

Once again, thanks for reading and sharing this memory with me! Hope you enjoyed!

XOXO K

Hello loves!

As I’ve been trying to gear myself up for fall and the bittersweet feeling that is the start of a new school year, curating and adapting my current wardrobe into a more transitional one has helped to prepare my mind for the upcoming change of season and pace. Not only is it fun, but it actually helps get me excited about spending the next ten months with classes full of adorably goofy teenagers! I don’t need to tell you shoulder bearing has been my one of my favorite – if not necessary – themes of this sizzling summer, as well as, bold tropical prints. Pairing these trends with rich, autumn tones and pieces that can be layered allows for looks that are practical now and will continue to be when the temperature drops and the cool air arrives.

The Outfit

So in walks this strapless print jumpsuit from H&M. Burgundy & baby blue are always an unexpectedly fabulous combination, and how in are palm leafs right now?! Disclosure: This jumpsuit runs small. I’ve been in between sizes these days, so admittedly I went into this purchase a little unsure of how exactly my general measurements had changed. For reference, I wear a 34DD (38″-39″ bust), generally wear a 6/8 and own a pair of pants from H&M in a size 8. Unfortunately, the 10 wasn’t even cutting it, no matter how many ways I tried to make that happen, and consequently I spent the better half of a month sending it back and forth. This was certainly not the most cost efficient method, as H&M charges a return fee for each time you send an item back using the provided postage. I would highly suggest going into your local store if you can, or order two sizes up from the jump. With that being said, this jumpsuit was worth all the hassle. I love the fabric; the jumpsuit is 100% lyocell – which is soft and as a bonus, known to be wrinkle resistant. I’m also a big fan of the sweetheart neckline and slight tapering at the leg. The construction is on point; I’m a sucker for a hidden side zipper, the bodice is lined, the seam hits right at the waist, and there’s side pockets. Definitely a must-have at it’s current price of $18!

Accessories

If you’ve been following me for awhile, you’ll recognize this beautiful bordeaux satchel from last fall. Despite how much I have enjoyed this summer, autumn is by far my favorite season, and one of the reasons is the variety of wine colored hues that saturate the fashion world each at this time. This structured ALDO handbag is the perfect shade, has a beautiful texture, gold detailing (forever and always), and comes with an adjustable shoulder strap. It sold out quickly last year, and I was so excited to see it back in stock for this upcoming season.

Beauty

I have a deep love for lipstick but don’t generally have the time get to large makeup retailers like Sephora or want to spend the money on expensive brands. Fortunately for me, CVS, Wagreens and now Target! sells Milani. Their ultra affordable matte lip cremes come highly recommended, albeit with a few suggestions. Matte lipsticks tend to be drying, so be sure to properly hydrate during the day and moisturize your lips at night. I usually put on a dab of coconut oil before going to bed. Use only one layer, otherwise the formula cakes and crumbles much more quickly. Also, use a lip liner for precision and to extend wear. Generally I can wear the lip cremes for up to 8 hours before it starts to look worn, less if I eat oily foods for lunch or dinner. I also just wanted to quickly tell you about the magic of these Pacifica underarm deodorant wipes I’ve been using all summer. Anyone who knows me, knows after rain, sweat is my worst enemy and I’m constantly in a battle against B.O. These wipes  are 100% vegan, sulfate free, smell great, and eliminate odor immediately. They’re also great at removing stubborn lipstick at the end of the day!

Hope you have a fantastic week and as always, thanks for reading!
